We only use quality gear at Australian Tactical Precision (ATP), this principal also extends to the products we manufacture.
One size does not fit all, that also applies to bag riders. There are many rear bag manufacturers out there and the spacing between the ears can be significantly different. Some bag riders are quite wide and if you try using these with a bag that has 10mm or 3/8″ spacing then it won’t track well, likewise if you use a thin bag rider in a wide bag. We’ve seen bag riders that are round on the bottom edge but this also doesn’t help with accuracy as it promotes cant. Other bag riders are also not very high so your buttstock sides can foul on the bag ears.
Our Ultimate Bag Riders are made in 3 different widths to fit the majority of rear bag spacings, 10mm (3/8″), 13mm (1/2″) and 19mm (3/4″), measure the lowest section between the bag ears to see which will be the best fit. If you are using a flat rear bag without ears, then the 19mm (3/4″) version is the best option. All these bag riders are the same length 140mm (5.5″) and are 21mm tall (13/16″) so that your buttstock will clear the ears. All edges are chamfered and contoured to avoid snagging.
These bag riders are parallel to the front section of the Oryx chassis and barrel so will track without any elevation change. It is attached by installing the 9mm (approx 3/8″) thick pad spacer/adaptor between your recoil pad and the chassis butt. A oversized cap head screw (M8 diameter, 20mm length) then bolts the bag rider to your spacer/adaptor. We have designed it so that the extra thick spacer/adaptor and oversized bolt combination makes it very stiff and almost impossible to bend under normal use. The protrusion on the underside of the spacer/adaptor is low profile so that you can leave it on your rifle and only attach the bag rider when needed.
We have also made a buttstock picatinny accessory rail that mounts to the spacer/adaptor (sold separately) so that you can mount a monopod or other accessory to your stock. Available at the following link:
NOTE: These bag riders will only fit the Gen 1 MDT Oryx Chassis which does not have an M-LOK slot on the underside of the buttstock.Â
The Gen 2 Oryx has an M-LOK slot on the underside of the buttstock so this version will not fit. However, we have made a bag rider for the Gen 2 which is available at the following link:
Our Bag Riders and spacer/adaptors are made in Australia from a solid piece of USA made 6061-T651 aircraft aluminium bar stock on USA made CNC machines, and are MIL-Spec Type III hard coat anodised for the ultimate in scratch resistance.
Includes the pad spacer/adaptor and M8 mounting screw.
