SHV™ 4-14×50 F1
Capitalizing on the award-winning success of our current SHV family, the new SHV 4-14×50 F1 delivers first focal plane performance in a versatile, mid-power package suitable for a wide range of shooting applications.
This riflescope brings a first focal plane option to the SHV family. This feature gives the shooter the option of precisely holding for elevation and wind at any magnification setting by using the intelligence built into the reticle. This SHV is offered with a choice of either the MOAR or MIL-R reticle, which are two of our most popular designs. Both reticle options are standard with illumination.
This new SHV incorporates a feature set built for versatility, starting with a 4-14x magnification range that offers an excellent combination of field of view and resolving power at higher magnification. The 50mm objective offers excellent light transmission at any time of day. The overall length is 14.8 inches, and the optic weighs in at 30 ounces.
This SHV has a 30mm main tube, which allows for a maximum adjustment range of 26 Mil-radians, and the adjustments tenth mil-radian based upon reticle choice. 5 mil-radians of adjustment per revolution is standard.
Standard Features
The Nightforce ZeroSet feature is also standard and allows for a rapid return to zero in any condition from any distance. The exposed elevation adjustment allows quick access, and a capped windage prevents accidental adjustments during travel or in the field.
Parallax is adjustable from 25 yards to infinity, and it does so without any backlash or hesitation. Also, the external illumination dial has 12 brightness settings.
The power zoom ring allows for quick and precise magnification adjustments, and a clamp-on Power Throw Lever is available as an accessory. The fast focus eyepiece design is standard, as on every SHV model.
Whether you’re making adjustments on the fly for a quick shot on uncooperative game or venturing into the fast action found in the precision rifle sports, you can trust the SHV 4-14×50 F1 to deliver precision at speed.
Staying true to our quality pledge, our SHV riflescopes undergo a rigorous inspection process before they can wear the Nightforce name.

MIL-R SHV™ F1 Reticle
The MIL-R™ reticle allows precise ranging and accurate hold offs for effective first-shot placement and quick follow-up shots. The floating center crosshair is 1.0 Mil across, and supported with whole, half, .2 and .1 Mil-Radian graduations across the reticle. This reticle features center illumination only, and a 15 Mil-radian scale below center.
Range estimation
The Nightforce MIL-R™ reticle can provide you with an accurate distance to your target, when the size of the target is known, by utilizing one of the the following Mil relation formulas:
- Target Size in Inches ÷ Image Size Measured in Mils in Reticle x 27.77 = Distance in Yards
- Target Size in Inches ÷ Image Size Measured in Mils in Reticle x 25.4 = Distance in Meters
- Target Size in Centimeters ÷ Image Size Measured in Mils in Reticle x 10.93 = Distance in Yards
- Target Size in Centimeters ÷ Image Size Measured in Mils in Reticle x 10 = Distance in Meters
For example, a standard stop sign measures 30” tall x 30” wide. Knowing the size of the target, in this case, a stop sign, and applying the correct formula above, you will be able to accurately calculate the distance to your target.
- Known target size = 30”
- Image size = 2.5 Mils. To measure image size of target in Mils, refer to the reticle diagram above.
- Divide target size (30”) by image size in reticle (2.5) = 12
- For distance in yards, multiply 12 x 27.77 (constant) = 333.24 yards to target.
- For distance in meters, multiply 12 x 25.4 (constant) = 304.8 meters to target.
Your ability to accurately measure your target in your reticle does take some practice to become proficient.

An excellent scope, very clear glass and good eye box from 4x to about 8x. It gets a bit small around the 12x mark, but that’s to be expected.
The adjustments are crisp and audible and the both the magnification and focusing dials are very smooth. My main complaint would be the rather dim illumination, even on an overcast, rainy day i could barely tell the centre cross was illuminated (on 11 setting)
